La Maison du Lierre

The staff were warm and friendly, and the service went well beyond what I expected. This charming, quirky little hotel made our couple of nights in the heart of Biarritz feel perfect. A lovely place whether you're travelling alone or with someone.

I chose this hotel at a high price, then had an accident two days before my planned stay. I had broken ribs, cuts and severe bruising, and was advised not to travel, so I let the hotel know. My original booking dates had also been a genuine mistake on my part, and the hotel reluctantly let me rebook for double the cost for a superior room. At first, the reply led to a misunderstanding because of the language. Juliette's second message was blunt to the point of rudeness and showed little compassion. If you don't appreciate being told, “we are no longer able to offer you any arrangements whatsoever,” avoid.

I stayed in room 12 before starting the Camino. It's small, really suited to one person, and could be awkward for two since the toilet is pretty much in the room. It may also be hard to get around in if you have a larger body. The hotel is lovely for a night in Biarritz, and breakfast was good. It was served at 7:40 on weekdays and 8 on weekends. The staff were helpful and spoke English.

We loved the view, the room and the breakfast. The place felt magical, and the city is beautiful, chic and just amazing. We'll be back soon!
