Manoir Angle

Our dog was welcome to roam freely around the property, and Vivian made us a delicious dinner that took my vegetarian diet into account. The owners were wonderful, and the location was exceptional. One of the most beautiful places we've ever stayed. We'll definitely come back.

A car is essential here because of the location, but there are plenty of places to reach by car, from Cognac, Limoges, Bordeaux, and La Rochelle to the coast at Royan, about 45 minutes away, with its many beaches. There are also lots of chateaux around. Closer by, Dampier sur Boutonne has a stunning chateau about 10 minutes away, while Aulnay has shops including a supermarket and fuel station, a couple of bars and eateries, and a Sunday market. We stayed for 10 days after a long but enjoyable drive from Calais, leaving the motorway at Le Mans. Vivienne and Ian welcomed us warmly. The renovated Manoir is a historic manor house that was once part of a larger estate, and it still has many historic features. Our hosts were very friendly and knew a lot about the property's history and the area, as well as suggesting places to visit nearby and farther afield. It's a lovely quiet spot for a restful stay or a stop to break up a longer journey, with pleasant grounds and a mill stream along the bottom of the garden. The rooms are spacious, the beds comfortable, and breakfast was plentiful, fresh, and filling. Would we return? Definitely, even just for the hospitality.

We ended up at Manoir Angle on the spur of the moment after a long, rainy day cycling, looking for somewhere warm and dry. The hosts were just as heartwarming as the welcome, treating us to hot showers, a cold beer, and a wonderful bed. Breakfast was excellent too. We absolutely recommend it, especially if you're as lost as we were on a cycling trip!
