Novotel Blois Centre Val de Loire Hotel

The city tax issue was eventually fixed by the staff, but being charged extra on arrival was frustrating and unprofessional when our booking confirmation said all taxes were paid and nothing would be due at the hotel. It's the lack of clear communication and the principle that bothered me, not the amount. We booked directly through your website, so that excuse doesn't hold up. What's unbelievable is that so many guests have complained about the same recurring problems, yet nothing seems to improve. Instead, you keep replying with the same copy-paste message full of empty good intentions. Disappointing and unacceptable. At check-in, staff offered the children ahead of us a Novotel bear keychain, then skipped our children, seemingly because I'd just raised the tax complaint. That felt petty and impolite for a hospitality business. Our family room felt more like a 2-star place than a 4-star hotel: dirty walls, stained carpets, and mold in the bathroom made the stay very disappointing. The location wasn't ideal, the exterior had little appeal, and the interior felt dated and underwhelming. Breakfast continued that lackluster impression. The selection was mediocre and the dining area cramped. By 9:00 AM there were no crepes left, though that should have been easy to fix given they used a basic store-bought mix. I've had better breakfasts at 3-star hotels. Overall, a very disappointing experience. I wouldn't recommend staying here.

There was no power on our floor overnight, which was really frustrating. Reception service was good, but breakfast was slow. Buffet plates were often empty, and dirty dishes sat on tables too long while people waited for seats. The drab, dirty main entrance made a bad first impression. I've stayed in many Novotels around the world, and this one was the most disappointing and below the usual standard.

The hotel's interior is funky and clean, the staff incredibly friendly, and the pool was a great extra. The facade looks a little tired, which is a shame because it hides a really good experience. Town and the chateaux are a safe, lovely 12-minute walk away, with nearby restaurants and activities to enjoy. We had a great overnight stay on the way back to the ferry, and the team made the last night of our holiday really enjoyable. We'll be back.

The ground-floor common space was a real plus, with a bar, arcade games, and a lounge area. We appreciated having a futon for our child too. Breakfast was wonderful, and the staff were very nice.
