We called at the last minute and booked one night to avoid those characterless hotels on the highway. The place is close to the A7 but tucked away in lovely countryside. Our host greeted us very warmly, showed us a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment that worked well for our family of five, and arranged a restaurant for us, which was really convenient. We slept comfortably and had a lovely breakfast on the terrace before continuing our trip. Everything was perfect. I could easily imagine spending a few days in the garden by the pool and exploring the beautiful surroundings.

SCAM The people running this property managed to ruin our holiday. My parents, my husband, and I booked through booking.com because of the reviews, which we believe were fake. When we arrived at Mas Lou Geneste Gîte de France, the man refused to open the door and gave no reason. We contacted booking.com; they tried calling him, but he refused to answer them too. Instead, he came outside and threatened to attack our car, so we had to call the police for help. We still don’t understand his behaviour. Maybe the place was overbooked, though it seemed empty. We think this may be his way of scamming travellers. Also, it’s far from any other accommodation, so finding somewhere to sleep would be difficult.

Amazing place. The pool was fresh and clean, and the rooms were great. The host is fantastic and responds to email right away if you call him directly.
