The one issue was a musty smell from the bathroom, noticeable as soon as we walked in. Opening the skylight and running the shower helped for a while, but it woke me later that night. The same thing happened the next evening, so we ran the water longer and shut the bathroom door, which kept the smell out of the room but made it stronger inside. We told the staff member again, and by the time we got back that night, she’d tried something that seemed to work. At checkout she apologized and explained that part of the drain had somehow gone missing. She fixed it, and everything was fine. She was so kind through the whole situation, offered us coffee, and gave us a parting gift. The room itself was quiet and restful, even though the hotel sits above the bar, and I’d gladly find a reason to stay again. It’s just off one of Bordeaux’s charming squares full of cafes and restaurants, across from a beautiful church. Check-in happens at the bar, which was a first for me, and the staff were lovely from the start. They explained what we needed to know, suggested places to eat and sights to see, and helped carry our bags up to the third floor. There’s no elevator, but the stairs are manageable. There are three rooms on each of the three floors, so it never felt especially busy or loud. The walls are fairly thin, and we could hear neighbors coming and going, along with the church bells, which I actually liked, but not much else. The rooms are on the small side. As other reviews mention, the bathroom has a sliding glass door that doesn’t offer much privacy. It worked fine for me and my husband. The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from the main shopping street and most Old Town sights.

It’s easy to explore the city on foot from Hôtel Lola, and the staff made us feel very welcome. They were kind and always ready to help with a smile. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well cared for. We had a lovely, easy stay and would happily come back.

The bar downstairs is popular and stays open late, and there’s another bar next door too. Noise can be a problem in a room facing the front, especially if you’re going to bed by 11 pm. We also had construction in the square by the basilica and in the building beside the hotel. The hotel is near the Bordeaux basilica, not the cathedral. I’d avoid a front-facing room or pick somewhere else if you turn in early.

Emma was so thoughtful and helped me arrange a special surprise for my wife. The room upgrade was a lovely bonus, and the room itself is perfect. We’ll definitely stay here again next time we’re in Bordeaux.

Our room was clean, the breakfast was nice, and the staff were friendly. But the rooms sit above the bar, and we had a full-on party until 2 am, with loud music vibrating through the room. There isn’t a proper bathroom door either, just a see-through glass one. Reception said they’re all like that. If those two things don’t bother you, the rest is good.
