Mercure Paris Boulogne Aparthotel

There’s drilling going on while the place is being refurbished, yet they still charge full price and don’t include breakfast. I’m in room 102 right now listening to it. The place doesn’t look like the website photos, and this feels like Faulty Towers. Better value elsewhere. The windows are drafty, so the air conditioner has to run full blast just to make modest heat. After our freezing first night, they lent us a portable heater. There’s a Nespresso machine, but only two capsules for the arrival day. Given how cold we were, they ‘kindly’ gave us some more. There’s no underfloor heating, so the bathroom floor and the area by the kitchenette are freezing.

The aparthotel was okay, clean and comfortable, though there were no frills. The nearby hotel is funky, with good restaurants and a good breakfast. I recommend it.

Construction is underway, and the drilling starts at 9 a.m. The rooms were freezing because the heating wasn’t working. Our sink was blocked, and one bedroom door wouldn’t close.

The reception was good, and there was a table tennis table, but even that nearly fell apart when I nudged it. We booked five nights for about 1,500 €, but the place was so bad we left after one. We got no refund, only free parking worth 25 €. The room smelled awful, like poop. The blankets felt disgusting, so we didn’t use them, though the AC units looked about 50 years old and were very dusty. The couch also felt disgusting. When we pulled out the fridge, the whole thing nearly came apart, and the door was broken and didn’t feel trustworthy. The second room was alright, but had a random orange window right beside the bed. With a big family, we needed two rooms. The shower, toilet, and sink were in separate rooms, which made things difficult when someone wanted to shower while another needed the toilet. The car park where we rented a car was very dark and scary. The elevator was tiny and sketchy, and couldn’t fit the whole family. The pictures make the place look modern and nice, but it was the opposite. It’s also very far from the famous attractions, so I wouldn’t recommend staying here if that’s what you’re visiting for.
