Auberge de Jeunesse HI Boulogne-sur-Mer

Inside, the place was renovated, clean, and had friendly staff, though from outside it looked old and intimidating. We stayed one night for a visit to NAUSICAA aquarium. The room was decent and clean, with a fresh renovation smell. Bring your own towels, fridge, soap, and shampoo, as none are provided. Breakfast was very basic but tasty. There’s no private parking, but plenty of space to park nearby, and it’s a 15-minute walk to the aquarium. Thanks for the hospitality 💖💖💖

The food was disgusting, and I was afraid to eat it because it seemed likely to make me sick. Others in my group became severely ill. The photos are misleading: there was mould around the windows, stained and dirty bedding, no storage space, and cheap, tacky, broken lights. Bathroom doors had no locks, the toilets were awkwardly positioned and hard to use, and the walls were very thin. The whole building was disgusting compared with what the photos suggest. I wouldn’t recommend staying here even if it were free.

I knew this school trip wasn’t going to be a five-star hotel experience, but the hostel still wasn’t great. Two friends and I were in room 212. There was mould by the bath, hardly any toilet paper and it was extremely thin, boogies on the wall by the shelf, and bugs crawling on the floor. You have to hold the shower because there’s nothing to attach it to on the wall. The mattresses are rubber, and the Wi-Fi isn’t very good. Reception staff were quite aggressive toward us, even when we only muttered a word. The food was pretty disgusting, with no allergy options. The vegetarian meal was just dumped on a plate and poor quality. One good thing is that it’s near the beach and other activities. I enjoyed the school trip, but not my stay at the hostel.

We stayed two nights, and the staff weren’t welcoming. When we arrived, I found a dead head louse on my bed, and the sheets were stained with things we couldn’t identify. The food wasn’t good, and the vegetarian portions were just thrown onto a plate. Bathroom lights flickered too. I wouldn’t recommend it for families.
