Roc Belle Face C - Alpes-Horizon

Getting from the apartments to the outside means walking hundreds of metres and taking several very slow lifts. At busy times they often get blocked, which is especially awkward with ski gear. Our six-person room had just three beds: two doubles and a bunk bed. The website didn’t mention this, and we were six separate travelers, so that was a pretty unpleasant surprise. They also charged €65 for cleaning because of a few crumbs on the table and one spoon the dishwasher hadn’t cleaned properly. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

The access to the apartments is already a pain, with long corridors and at least two lifts to use. Inside, the rooms were in awful shape: black mold in the bathrooms and on the walls, stains on the walls and carpets, and a bad smell. For a four-star price, it felt like a hostel. We spent our first night without sheets or towels because none had been supplied. Reception was so rude that it felt like they were telling us to leave if we didn’t like it. This place should be checked by a health inspector. A horrible experience.

The location is good, and the staff were friendly. Most of the rest felt far from a four-star stay. We had to make our own beds, and there was no soap, salt, coffee, or even dishwasher detergent. They gave us an inventory of apartment items to sign, as though we might steal something. Guests are expected to clean the bathroom and toilet before leaving. The pool and sauna came with no robes or separate towels. Also, their “double bed” in the room description turned out to mean a bunk bed. When the owners say in replies that this isn’t a traditional hotel, they should reconsider calling it four-star. The guest experience doesn’t match that level.

The resort and skiing were great, and the staff were nice and tried their best. The building itself, though, was a frustrating stay. Getting from the paid car park to our apartment took three separate lifts, with long waits at busy times. The apartment had almost nothing: no coffee or filters for the coffee machine, shower soap, enough toilet paper for a week, or dish detergent. The bed was nearly as uncomfortable as a concrete floor. We had to bag up the sheets and towels and take them to a laundry trolley, and were asked to count everything in the apartment, even spoons. It gave the impression guests were expected to steal or wreck things. Our shower also leaked beneath the bathroom tiles and into the bedroom carpet. The carpet stains suggested this had been happening before we arrived. I won’t stay in this building again.
