Château de La Prade

The pool was a lovely place to cool off on a hot day, and the owners were friendly and helpful. We really liked the decor, too. The grand old building sits amid beautiful gardens, with a short walk along the canal into the pretty old village of Bram. One of our favorite stays in France.

Carine was so helpful and kind to us during our stay. I really enjoyed our time at Château de la Prade, it was a wonderful experience.

The hosts kept an eye out when our cycling schedule ran late, then waited by the Canal to greet us so we wouldn’t get lost. They even made sure we knew where to find them. We were on an 8-day cycling trip through Occitanie, and this was a favorite stop. The chateau has charming, luxurious rooms that made me think of a James Bond location. Bikes can be stored inside for security. Bram has a lovely canal-side restaurant, and it’s a great starting point for visiting places along the Canal du Midi, Narbonne, and Carcassonne. We made the Gite our home for three weeks in Sept 2023, and the owners made us feel at home there. We love cooking, so the well-equipped kitchen was a real plus, with two ovens, a large fridge, and a large freezer. There are two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. The garden view, with its huge trees, was fantastic. The Chateau sits by the canal du midi, and the locks are just a couple of minutes’ walk away. It also made a handy base for trips to Rennes le Chateau, Montsegur, Mirepoix and ofcourse Carcassonne. We saw lots of cyclists staying at the Chateau for a few days. We’d recommend it to anyone visiting the Cathar area, and would come back if time lets us.
