Logis Hôtel le Clos Saint-Loup

The room was simple but adequate, and breakfast was good. When the restaurant was closed, they served us a pleasant vegetarian plate in our room. The couple running the place were lovely and went above and beyond to help us.

The management was awful. There was no air con, the WiFi was unusable, and without screens on the Windows, flies came inside. The rooms got hot, so we opened the windows and spent the evening battling flies. Once it cooled enough to shut them at dark, we could kill the flies. It was 30 degree celcius temps, and there was no way we could stay through another hot day to recover from a 35 km walk without internet or having to choose between swatting flies all day and boiling with the windows closed. When I couldn’t get online, I thought maybe the lobby was close enough to the signal, so I went to sit in the lobby and bar. The bartender got angry and threw me out because I wouldn’t order a drink. A hotel staff member came by, and I thought she would help me find somewhere to work, but she only let me sit outside, not in the bar or lobby. It turned out the problem was the internet, not the distance. Management was unsympathetic, and as digital nomads we had to use our phone data to get our work done. We tried to find another hotel but nothing nearby was available. It was Bastille day weekend, and we were on foot walking the St James way, so we were stuck. We were meant to stay for two days, but finally found a hotel in castelnaudery and left the next morning. We’ll be disputing the second night with booking. The place is also a 1/2 hour walk from the canal and downtown Bram, so it’s very far away if you want to be near town.

The rooms are spacious and modern, with comfortable beds, and the location is beautiful. Service was friendly and smiling. Breakfast was a bit disappointing, but I’d still come back.
