The castle itself is a work of art, and the story behind it is fascinating: Michel's father and his sons rebuilt it from a ruin. We loved wandering through the garden, with its clipped hedges and tucked-away spots, and looking over the moat full of carp. The tower has lovely views, and spotting an owl up there was a real treat. Our large medieval suite had painted walls, old furniture, a huge stone fireplace and even secret doors. It felt like a proper castle stay for the kids, while still having a kitchenette and a nice bathroom. We could explore anywhere in the castle, even at night, and the whole experience felt private and immersive. Michel and Annie were so kind to us and the children. We've stayed in places all over the world, and this is the best accommodation we've had. Breakfast was fantastic, and the price felt very reasonable for such a special place. We were visiting Annecy, with its canals and great markets, and the castle also makes a good base for seeing Chateau Chillon on Lake Geneva. We live a long way away in Oregon, but hope to come back someday.

The gardens are easy to miss bits of, so make sure to wander through all of them. We found hidden corners, including pergolas and tree hideouts. Inside, the Knights room on the ground floor has shields and pictures that show the Savoyen army across the centuries. There's an interesting museum, and the ticket office has a detailed guide in English and French. Getting there by car is easy. The history of Savoy video is in French with no subtitles, though, so it can be hard to follow.

We were invited to a wedding here, and it turned into an unforgettable day. I loved the atmosphere and the well-kept garden, and the museum display was great too. The food was excellent. Such a magnificent adventure. Merci.

The room views were spectacular, we could see Lake Geneva from ours. Getting up there meant climbing 71 steps on a medieval stone staircase, which was tough, but absolutely worth it. The rooms themselves are really nice, though don't expect any frills. It's a restored medieval Chateau with an authentic feel, and the place and hosts more than make up for the lack of extras.
