The rooms are neat and nice, and the SPA area is really cool. The staff are pleasant and understanding, and they're always willing to accommodate you. This is the best hotel in Brest in my opinion. We'll definitely return, and every time we're in Brest we'll stay here!

I'm Sylvain Castel's friend and client, and I brought him back from Amsterdam to Brest. Here's what happened during my stay at your hotel and restaurant this week. On November 5 at 4:15 pm, reception offered me a room for €260 for two nights. That was €20 more than online, but after a long drive I was tired and agreed. Ten minutes later, the receptionist said the room was no longer available and offered a larger one. I said I'd take it at the price he'd just quoted. He said it would cost €40 more in total. I asked him to honor the first price, but he looked at me as though I was stupid and gave no apology or explanation. I needed a room, so I agreed again. He checked me in and charged €320.90, which was another €20.90 taken from me. The restaurant opened at 7 pm. We had two hours to wait, so we went to the bar. The bartender spoke no English. Around 6:30, we got the menu, and an older waiter recommended lobster. I asked where it was caught and how long it had been in the aquarium. He told us we'd each get two small, live lobsters caught locally, straight from the harbour. That sounded good. At 7, we went into the empty restaurant, where the waiter asked if we'd reserved. We ordered lobster. The older waiter then brought a plate with two medium raw lobsters to show us what we'd be eating. After about half an hour, dinner arrived: one lobster cut into two halves, one half for each of us. It wasn't four small lobsters as we'd first been told, or the two medium ones he'd shown us. We were starving, so we ate. When we asked what happened to the other lobster, the older waiter first acted like he didn't understand, then stammered that he'd ask the kitchen. Our plates were already empty and we just wanted Irish coffees, so I asked for two with double whiskey as compensation. He went to the bar and came back saying they'd cost €48. We didn't accept that, but stayed polite. The poor waiter finally admitted it was his first day and that the cook had told him to bring the two lobsters on the plate because it would look good. He said we were right, it wasn't fair, and offered two free drinks of our choice. There was a party and a fight outside that kept me awake for a few hours. At 6:30 the next morning, I found the eggs, bacon and sausage at breakfast cold. I got back to the hotel tired at about 2 am, but the front door was locked and there was nowhere to use my room card to get in. No one was at reception. I rang the bell and knocked many times, then called the phone number posted on the window repeatedly. After at least 45 minutes, I called 112 as a last resort. The operator said she couldn't help. I told her I'd break the door if it didn't open soon and that then she'd have to act anyway. Five minutes later, the night porter showed up and let me in. My room had been cleaned, but there was no fresh drinking water. The night porter told me to drink from the tap. I said I expected a bottle of drinking water from a four star hotel. After I insisted for ten minutes, he brought me two bottles. At checkout the next morning, the woman at the desk asked how my stay had been. I told her everything above. There was no apology, just one free breakfast. I left angry and disappointed. My friend Sylvain is very ashamed this happened to me in his hometown, so he will post this story as a Google review.

It's a shame, because the building itself is good, but the hotel seems badly run. The reception staff were the exception, but elsewhere I found staff incompetent. My balcony was dirty with pigeon droppings, and by 9:05 on Sunday there were no croissants or pain-au-chocolat left at breakfast. The spa was completely out of order, and one person was serving breakfast for 20 tables.

Parking is limited, so keep that in mind. Otherwise, this is a quiet, peaceful hotel within walking distance of central Brest, restaurants and the train station. The rooms are nicely decorated, the staff are friendly, and the location makes the stay worthwhile.
