Terres de France - Appart’Hôtel Brest Pasteur

Wifi and laundry were useful, and the office staff were friendly. But the apartment block was dirty and smelled, and the room was nothing like the website description. I had paid in advance for six nights in a non-smoking double studio, but room 403 had twin beds, missing kitchen equipment, dirty surfaces, greasy, heavily marked floors and walls, and a strong smoke smell. Reception staff were pleasant and tried to help by changing the bed, replacing the equipment, and cleaning, but agreed the smell could not be removed. It would need industrial cleaning or renovation to be acceptable. I couldn't sleep there, so I told reception and left that day. I emailed in both French and English straight away to request a refund, then followed up several times and still got no reply. I'm now escalating the complaint to various authorities, including the tourist office, hotel organizations, and the company CEO. There are other drawbacks: it's about a 30-40 minute walk to the city center, with only two restaurants, a pizza takeaway, and a shop nearby. Security seemed very poor. When reception was closed and no staff were around, we walked straight into the breakfast room, where guests' bags were stored. There's no lift across the three floors, I got no answer to my email asking for a 1 pm early check-in, and our room had traffic noise. Maybe after renovation it could work as low-grade accommodation, but for now I'd avoid it.

The room was clean and well equipped, including the option to cook, and we could do our laundry too, which was really handy. The neighborhood was quiet and the parking area was fairly large. We stayed one night, Saturday to Sunday, and were greeted warmly. The staff were very pleasant, attentive, and helpful, thanks to them. At €44, it was great value, so I'm happy to recommend it and give it five stars. The rooms are better equipped than some hotel chains.

The breakfast lady was lovely and let me check out before reception opened at 8 am. The rest of the stay was a bad experience, and I won't repeat it. I was there for one night on a business trip. The small parking lot seemed inadequate for the number of rooms, though getting into my room late was easy. The hotel felt noisy and outdated, and many guests stay for a month or longer. Food smells from the first floor drifted up to my second-floor room. The bathroom was clean, but the room needs work. My socks got dirty from the floor, so I couldn't walk around barefoot, and the bed was uncomfortable. There's no elevator, which would make things difficult for anyone with mobility issues. The Wi-Fi also didn't work in the rooms. I wouldn't call it catastrophic, but it was close. I wish I'd checked the reviews before booking.
