The village was lovely, and the hotel had a quiet, clean feel that let me properly unwind and breathe some fresh air. I especially liked its old-fashioned charm and the books around, just like in the pictures. I was looking for a day away from Paris and all the metro and bus noise, and this was just what I needed. I’d happily come back.

The breakfast was a treat, with strong fresh coffee, warm crispy French bread, and a croissant. Our hosts were friendly and spoke English. The hotel felt a little dated, but it was clean and tidy, and the hospitality was great. Very reasonable price, and I’d recommend it.

We stumbled across this traditional family-run place by accident. The Wi-Fi was excellent, and the bathroom had a bidet. Breakfast buffet was 6 Euros, while the home-cooked evening meal was 14 Euros. It’s convenient for the car, train, and local bus, with plenty of parking behind and opposite. There’s a Presse/tabac 50 metres away and a Dia supermarket five minutes on foot. Staff understood many languages.

There were a few handy touches at the New World: a huge free parking lot opposite, a bathtub, books you could take home, and a pod coffee machine in the lounge. The owner even gave us some pods. But their taste was hard to describe, and they definitely didn’t taste like coffee. Maybe the pods themselves dated back to the 60s and 70s. The room and hotel had a time-warp feel, like the 60s and 70s in East Berlin. Antique furniture, worn bedding, a security gate at reception, a kitschy lounge, and only a few TV channels. Good luck.
