Really good.
The pool and jacuzzi were dirty, and I didn't feel like getting into either. The hammam and sauna were never switched on, which left us wondering why they were even listed. Outside, there was clutter everywhere, and the children's play areas were dirty, worn, and had structures that were broken or unsafe. Our accommodation had a musty smell as soon as we entered, and the water smelled bad and came out with very little pressure. Even taking a simple shower was disappointing. There was no sofa to sit on properly, and the comfort that had been promised seemed forgotten. The whole place gave the impression of being neglected. This stay was really disappointing and far from relaxing. For a family holiday, it was a shame, and it quickly spoiled the mood and the trip. Run away! 🏃♀️🏃🏃♂️💨
We came away from Domaine du Bois Joli feeling confused and deeply disappointed. It seemed to rely on its image and photos more than the actual experience, and we felt misled by the pictures. The name suggests something magical and relaxing, and the website promised an almost fairytale stay, but the reality was very different. Outside, several parts of the property were strewn with rubbish, more like an open-air dump than a restful retreat. The accommodation looked rustic and poorly maintained despite its appealing exterior, and fell well short of what had been promised. It was uncomfortable too: there was no real place to relax, just a few uncomfortable plastic chairs and no sofa. With four of us, the layout was very impractical and we kept getting in one another's way. There was little storage, no shelves or hooks, and not even a bin inside. A musty smell lingered. The front door gaped open and wouldn't shut properly, the shower pressure was very low, and many advertised amenities seemed to be missing or out of order. The lack of upkeep and professionalism was especially frustrating. Spa and hammam facilities still work in places with much harsher climates, like Norway. Here, everything felt neglected. The pool might have been usable if its covered structure had simply been installed and maintained correctly.
The area is a great place to visit, and the pool was nice, though cold. The campsite itself is family-run but could really use a facelift. The accommodation was rustic, with dirty, chipped, and even broken kitchen utensils. There wasn't a bin in the kitchen, and the outdoor one was emptied only once a week, which wasn't enough in midsummer with the smell of melon and watermelon. The outdoor areas needed clearing and the rubbish taking to the recycling centre. The play area also needs a major overhaul, since it had broken toys that couldn't be used. Mattresses were old and uncomfortable, especially the children's spring bed, which was 20 years old. The owner said the campsite isn't connected to the electricity grid, so charging an electric car wasn't possible, not even slowly.
The welcome was poor. Before saying hello or welcoming us, they threatened to charge us more. The bungalow was in bad shape from poor maintenance, and the list of problems was long. The doors wouldn't close: the front door had been installed backwards, and we were told not to force it because it was fragile; the shower door wouldn't shut at all. The taps were loose, and the shower tap looked ready to give way. Some windows had no curtains, the fridge had a freezer compartment without a door, and the beds were child-sized even though adults were staying there. Things got worse with water damage in the neighbouring unit. From the moment we arrived, there were problems, but according to the owner it was our fault, or the fault of the grass snakes supposedly in the pipes, because she said she'd checked everything carefully. Odd, given the dust on the furniture.
