The drive into the Luberon is quite challenging, and the last stretch to the auberge is rough gravel. There’s no WiFi or cell service in the rooms either. Still, we had a lovely stay at Auberge des Seguin. It sits deep in a canyon beneath Buoux’s famous climbing walls, with scenery that feels like a miniature Yosemite Valley. Breakfast and dinner were both quite good, especially for a place with such a bohemian feel.

The dramatic setting alone made the drive worthwhile, and the winding road is part of the experience. We came for dinner because we were tired of the usual expensive French bistro feel in the Luberon, and absolutely loved this place. The simple, traditional Provençal menu came with a generous starter platter and a choice of dessert. My partner had trout, I had beef stew, and at 30 euros per person we thought it was great value. I’d consider coming back to stay, though the small traditional menu probably won’t suit vegans or vegetarians.

The rooms and buildings are a bit aged, but they’re comfortable and charming. Staff were accommodating, and it can’t be easy to serve such a varied group of guests, so I can understand the occasional shortness or impatience. The scenery is exceptional, and the food is simple and delicious. The picnic lunch was especially good.

In a beautiful setting, the restaurant serves traditional Provençal food that’s well prepared and reasonably priced. The waiter was friendly and helpful, and the meal was delicious. I only took a photo of the starter plate.

We were a group of 20 and got a very warm welcome. Our waiter was cheerful and friendly, and the traditional home-style cooking came with excellent dishes and fine wine. I’d come here at least once a week if I could.
