Hôtel Mary’s - Caen Centre Gare Sncf

The price, location, and service were all great, and the beds were comfortable. The receptionist even handed me a paper clip when I needed one to swap my phone SIM, no fuss at all. The windows did a really good job of blocking outside noise, too. My only issue was the heat: there’s no air conditioning, and during an unusually hot stay I had to choose between opening the window and hearing the constant noise, or shutting it and sweating. It also got a bit rowdy at night. I’d have given it five stars in cooler weather, or with AC.

The rooms don’t have much ventilation, and sounds from the hallway carry through, though street noise is well insulated. Breakfast was below average, but the staff were friendly. The place felt like an average European budget hotel. At night, drug dealers and users gathered just outside the entrance; one blocked my way in while trying to sell something, which was unsettling.

After a stressful day, arriving in Caen by bus, this hotel was a welcome find. It’s about two minutes from the station, with buses and trams right outside, and the centre is a 10-15 minute walk away. We got a warm welcome and were shown to our room. The place was spotless and well appointed, and the host went out of their way to make our stay a good one. We’d happily stay again.

The room was good, and the price felt fair for what you get. It’s right by the train station and well connected to the city centre, which is close enough to walk to.
