Saint Martin Caen

The gite is about six minutes from town and within walking distance of attractions like the Chateau/Castle, cathedrals, and abbey. The owners and staff were attentive, and there’s a lovely breakfast room serving a fresh continental spread with meats, cheese, tea, coffee, juice, and fruit. Our attic room was large and beautiful, with a comfortable double bed and a shower and toilet room with a view over the rooftops toward town. It’s old-fashioned and quaint, quite stunning. There’s also a courtyard with a separate gite. The property sits behind heavy green doors on the street, which open digitally by video. It has three floors, with very steep, narrow marble steps to the rooms.

The location is great and the price is fair. Breakfast was simple but good, and the staff were friendly and quick to reply by email. The room could use more care, though. The curtains need fixing, some lamps didn’t work, and there was used gum on the floor. The mattress should be replaced, and the shower floor was slick as ice, so be careful.

Parking in central Caen isn’t especially easy, but I hope to return anyway. The blue room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and absolutely spotless, with a lovely bathroom. It was well insulated from both noise and heat, inside and out. Friendly service and a very good breakfast too. This hotel in the middle of Caen is a gem, and I highly recommend it.

We had the breakfast each morning and found it fresh, plentiful, and delicious. The room, Le Chambre Vert, was quiet and very spacious, overlooking a lovely courtyard in a peaceful area. It includes a living and sleeping space, a separate dressing room, a bathroom with double sinks and a bath-shower combo, plus a separate toilet room. Le Clos Saint-Martin was a very nice place to stay, and we’d gladly return.
