The friendly, helpful staff did a lot to make the stay good, just as other reviews had said. For a day or two in Calais and the surrounding area, the location is useful: the IHG Calais hotel is close to the pier and gives quick access to the port. You may have around 30 minutes of customs to get through before boarding. There are also several charming restaurants and cozy cafés nearby. The rooms are functional and have what you need for a comfortable stay, though the interiors aren’t especially modern. For drivers, there are roughly 20-30 free parking spaces right in front. The parking doesn’t officially belong to the hotel, but being able to keep an eye on your vehicle from the room was reassuring. Noise is the main thing to consider. My stay was over Halloween, when the area was lively. If you’re a light sleeper, think carefully about the room: one overlooking the harbour may be a poor choice, since traffic can still be noticeable late at night.

We only stayed one night, and it was a very comfortable stop. The check-in staff were excellent, the room was spotless, and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was simple but really good. The staff checked several times to see if they could help, which we appreciated. We don’t speak French, but they spoke English very well. I’d highly recommend it for a clean, comfortable short stay.

We had a very good little break for the December Calais markets. My wife uses a wheelchair and we’re both immobile, but the accessible room worked well. I’m keen to leave feedback about disability access. The breakfast was great, and unlike at some hotels, staff kept a close eye on what needed topping up. They were always friendly and helpful when we needed support with our mobility. It’s not four-star by UK standards, though I think standards in France are more relaxed.

The hotel is very old and definitely doesn’t feel like a four-star place. Some furniture can’t be used, and the old mattresses and pillows were uncomfortable. It badly needs renovating, and it doesn’t seem to have much to do with the chain behind it. The staff, especially Christopher, were all super nice and helpful. They were very service-minded and dealt with requests quickly. I can’t recommend the hotel, though I’m still glad I stayed. Thanks to the hotel team.

There are plenty of places to eat nearby, and it’s nice to walk around the area after dinner. We’ve stayed here twice now. The rooms are a good size and the bed is really comfortable. It can get noisy with the windows open, but we slept well with them shut. Breakfast is worth paying for. A handy stop after the Tunnel, either before heading back to England or at the start of a trip in France.
