Auberge de la Foret

We stopped for lunch after walking through the woods. Service was uneven: one waiter was very attentive, but when it was time to pay, we stood at the till for several minutes even though staff had seen us. The cannelloni was still frozen in the middle, and felt expensive for a starter.

After several days of hiking on our own, finding this place felt like a real treat. The staff were cheerful and patient with our poor French. The waitress who served us was especially friendly and helpful.

A note for anyone staying here on the GR20: this is part of the stage 2 variant, so you won’t climb stage 2. The people working here are really lovely. They helped me change a reservation at other hotels, and the food is good. The rooms are a decent size, but I was here in August and it was very hot. There’s no air conditioning, and the bed was so hot that I ended up sleeping on my mat on the floor. There’s no Wi-Fi, though cellular reception works. They take cash only, no credit cards.

Such lovely people, a super king bed, and great food. They also gave really good advice. A great place for dinner, a GR20 stopover, or both.
