Hotel L'abbaye Calvi

I totally fell in love with Calvi, and the lovely pool and excellent breakfast helped make this a great hotel stay. What really made it was the customer service. The staff were friendly, efficient, and always smiling, and they worked hard and were happy to help with anything. Thanks for a wonderful holiday.

I was visiting Calvi for a week for the first time and stopped by l'Abbaye twice for breakfast, though I didn't stay overnight, so I can't comment on the rooms. The buffet cost 25€, had a wide choice, and I enjoyed it on the quiet, sunny terrace. Reception gave me an excellent welcome, and Kelly provided great service.

The building itself is beautiful, with a great view, and it's clean and comfortable. But the terrible staff and service ruined our trip and made us feel ripped off. When we asked at the front desk for a cab to the airport, the woman reacted as if we'd asked for her kidney. A €18 club sandwich was like something from McDonald's, with frozen chicken nuggets and limp lettuce. Corsican people would be ashamed to know that's what visitors might think Corsican food is like. One night, it took an hour to get a beer because nobody brought it out. The night before, there hadn't even been anyone around to take orders. It's a real shame the management has made such a poor experience out of a beautiful place. Don't book if you want to feel the magic of Corsica.

The WiFi in the room was too slow for a good connection, so if you need reliable internet, I'd book somewhere else. The receptionist was rude and unprofessional, though eventually admitted the WiFi was slow. I've never been treated that way in an expensive four-star hotel. There was no apology or compensation. I asked to see the manager twice, but he wasn't available, and they didn't offer to arrange an appointment. This isn't personal, it's factual. Booking.com has a low 6.5 score for internet, and many other verified reviews mention problems with it.
