La Signoria

The property was otherwise great, with a lovely setting, beautiful views, a relaxing feel, and a great location near the airport. The front desk staff were the best. Still, our room wasn’t up to par: there was water damage and mold, and black particles appeared each night around the bed and on the floors, coming from the vents. It was hard to breathe and concerning. I shared photos with the staff.

This is only a review of the restaurant. The open air table in the garden was wonderful, and the Genovese estate and its gardens were beautiful, although aircraft taking off and landing at the nearby airport interrupted the atmosphere. Staff greeted us politely and showed us to our table. Unfortunately, restaurant service let the evening down. The waiters seemed young and inexperienced. The sommelier brought the wine list, but the waitress took our order. When we asked for a local light red wine recommendation, she replied, “what is your budget.” It went downhill after that. We stayed the night and tried numerous dishes, all beautifully presented with great artistic flair. Most tasted rather bland, though, and didn’t live up to their appearance. We still enjoyed much of the evening, but left a little disappointed. We were glad we chose to stay at another R&C property, La Villa, instead of this one.

The spa cleanliness could be improved, and paying 20€ for a cocktail is insane. The bar was totally empty. The hotel and spa have great potential, but there seems to be no investment in staff training. We booked a day spa with lunch. The massage was great, but lunch was a disaster. The beef was impossible to eat, and when we told the service, they said they’d speak to the kitchen. Fifteen minutes later they came for our plates, so we had to remind them we were waiting for a response. They then offered an alternative, but only from the room service menu. There was no apology or offer of a complimentary coffee or anything else. The fries’ mayonnaise was dried, which seemed a possible salmonella risk. We wanted to tell the service to help prevent other guests getting food poisoning, but the guy wouldn’t listen and wanted to try the mayonnaise himself. We pointed out you can’t taste salmonella, but he didn’t care. I hope he’s alright. We spent two hours in the restaurant, with each of us eating in turn, so everyone had an hour sitting there without food. For the price, it was quite an underwhelming experience.

The scenery is beautiful, and the employees do their best to meet customers' needs, but the hotel doesn’t match its price or international standards. The rooms are quite outdated and need refreshing, and breakfast was poor. It doesn’t feel up to Relais&Chateaux standards.
