Au Prieure Saint Jean

The five nights went by with a different dinner each evening, all varied and made with local ingredients. Dinner was served around one big table with the owners and other guests. We got the starter and dessert at the table, then shared platters for the main course. The hiking package was well worth booking, too: the picnic basket had fruit, homemade salads, baguette, cheese, and even plates, cutlery, and glasses. Breakfast was just as good, with homemade jams and gels, homemade chocolate, organic yogurt, and more. We had a lovely stay with Sandra and Martijn at 'Au Prieuré Saint Jean'. The historic house has kept its original features, which give it lots of charm. Some renovations are still needed, and the owners know that, but our room was neat and clean. We’ll definitely come back.

If you want a quiet break away from the city, with good humor and joie de vivre all around, don’t hesitate. It’s a truly unusual, refreshing place, and the hosts do their best to meet your expectations. Everything is homemade, and the food is excellent, so kudos to the cook! Thanks for the warm welcome and for following the pandemic regulations.

Dinner was excellent too, and both meals were very good value for money. Breakfast was really generous, served either inside or on the shaded terrace. We stayed in a very spacious family room and got a warm welcome from Martin and Sandra, the Belgian couple who run the place. Martin takes care of reception while Sandra cooks. The priory is in a quiet, somewhat secluded valley near Camares. I highly recommend this guesthouse. 😊

We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. It’s a clean, comfortable place with tasteful decor, and the owners keep to themselves while still being available whenever needed. Meals are available. A great fit for anyone who loves nature and wants some peace and quiet.
