The portions are generous and the price is fair, so a winter trip here is well worth it. The garbure at Auberge des Pyrénées tastes like the mountains themselves. It ought to be a national treasure.

We had dinner in the flower-filled little courtyard, with the Pyrenees all around us. We arrived rather late, but they stayed open so we could eat, which we really appreciated. The owner was lovely and looked after us well. She told us her grandmother opened the hotel and restaurant 50 years ago, and that she now runs it with her parents, from caring for hotel guests to making the food from scratch. We came looking for traditional local cooking and found just that. The garbure was excellent, and the menu included homemade country pâté, chicken Basque-style, and plum tart. Everything was tasty, filling, and reasonably priced. We loved the Auberge des Pyrennees and would definitely come back when we're in the area.

The owners were relaxed about checkout, so we could head out on our bikes early and pack up the tent afterward. We camped for one night while cycling nearby. There’s a small tent area, and the facilities are basic but clean. The setting is lovely, right on the route for Col Du Tourmalet. We didn’t eat at the restaurant, though it looked great. Thanks for a really easygoing stay.

The prices were really reasonable, and we absolutely loved having dinner here. There’s a lovely old-fashioned charm to the place, and the authentic French food was superb, served with a smile.

There were plenty of people eating, and seating two more wouldn’t have made a difference. Turning away hungry tourists felt rude. I’d suggest not doing that in future.
