The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the bread and pastries you can preorder for morning pickup were good quality. It’s a decent basic place, with lots of little cottages, a small shop and restaurant, and an indoor/outdoor pool. The buildings look quite dated, like they’re from the 90s, but everything was clean and fit for purpose. The bedrooms were an okay size, and the beds were averagely comfortable. You have to pay for all the extras, including towels, which was fine, but I was annoyed there were no tea towels for drying hands. For what we paid, it was what I expected. The pool was a bonus, though it could do with an update too. The picture shows the smallest toilet I’ve ever seen.

It was very quiet, and the clean little house worked well for our family. Having two bathrooms was a big plus. We didn’t get towels, but reception gave us more than enough when we asked. We were busy taking trips to Mont St Michel and St Malo, so didn’t get to try the pool.

The swimming pool is great, but the house is too small for three people and there are only a few dishes in the kitchen. When it rains, the garden table can’t really be used because the roof is too small, so there’s nowhere to eat or have wine or coffee in bad weather. The kitchen is also a bedroom for one person.

The pool was warm and good, and the kids loved it. Just don’t expect much from the toilets there, as they didn’t even have soap. We booked a chalet for six for a week in August with my young family. The facilities are basic and functional, which would be okay if it didn’t cost 2,000 euros for the week. The accommodation is very small, about 50 square metres, and people end up sleeping in the hallway. It’s okay for a small family. As at many French resorts, towels aren’t included, and the place is only serviced at the end of your stay. It’s poorly equipped, so remember to bring toilet paper and other basics. The kitchen is more like one in a student flat than in a three-star self-catering place. The owner’s attitude was the worst part. He didn’t like being asked for anything, such as whether they had a charging point for our car, and was very aggressive in front of our children. That was unacceptable. Avoid at all cost. Edit after the owner’s response: He has every right to respond, but it just reinforces what I said about the management’s attitude and behavior. I won’t comment on the response itself because it’s simply inaccurate. Be prepared to be harassed and mistreated if you ask for anything.

Cancale is lovely, with lots to see and do, and Mont San Michel is worth a visit and not too far away. We had a one-bedroom cottage for a three-night stopover before catching the ferry to Dublin. It had everything you need, though one bedroom isn’t ideal with small kids because the two pull-out beds are in the kitchen. The swimming pool was great.
