Breakfast was fine, and I liked the historic character and grounds. The property has potential, which makes the service problems especially frustrating. The outdoor plastic furniture feels cheap, and the photos online set expectations that didn't match the actual place. I spent a week there and left mostly disappointed. The bathroom was old and poorly maintained. The shower barely worked and sprayed badly, while the shape of the bath sent water everywhere. Each morning around 8, kitchen smells drifted into my room and cleaning staff talked loudly in the hall. It wasn't a restful stay. Housekeeping didn't clean the sink or mirror stains, remove the visible wrappers and empty bags I left out, or wash the used tea cups for days. They made the bed and brought fresh towels, but didn't replenish the tea during my entire seven-day stay. I still don't know what their cleaning service covered. My feedback wasn't about the room size or category. A standard room should have a working shower, clean bathroom, and proper housekeeping. There's a passcode to enter the property, but late arrivals aren't told what it is. A colleague was locked out after staff had gone home. That's a serious gap and a safety concern. The team were friendly, but their English was very limited for a 3-star hotel, which made it hard to sort out problems. I also couldn't recover a personal item I accidentally left behind. I don't know whether it was discarded or misunderstood, and they couldn't explain what happened. I shouldn't have to put every personal item in a safe, especially a bathroom essential. Housekeeping shouldn't throw guests' things away. I've stayed at budget road hotels that were much better. The place needs real investment in maintenance, staff training, communication, and basic hospitality. I'm glad to hear improvements are underway, and I wish the team well. I hope future guests have a better stay, but I won't be returning.
