The room smelled like a dirty dog, and the whole place felt like a hostel from the start. At check-in, the front desk attendant handed me the TV remote and two towels. I’d booked the “hotel” through Expedia with a prepaid option, and Expedia had issued a receipt showing that only the city tax was due at the property. But the attendant charged my card for the full room account. I showed her the receipt, and she said Expedia hadn’t paid them and refused to refund me, telling me to speak to the manager in the morning. I checked my bank account and saw the Expedia hotel charge had posted. At checkout, I explained this to the same attendant and asked her to refund the room charge she’d put on my card. She said she’d checked with the manager, they hadn’t received Expedia’s payment, and she couldn’t refund me. I tried to explain that the hotel should sort out the payment with Expedia rather than charge me again. She said she didn’t believe I’d been charged through Expedia. Her exact words were, “I can’t believe anyone who walks through this door.” It was a horrible experience.
