L'Auberge Normande

We only came for dinner. The steak was very chewy and the food generally wasn't great. Service was extremely slow, or maybe just unhurried, depending on how you see it. The staff were friendly enough, but the whole experience felt a bit like Fawlty Towers, at a higher price. I can't recommend it. You'd be better off at Contoir des Morais by the dock.

The manager made us feel welcome right away, and the restaurant had a great atmosphere. We had an amazing evening and will be back. José is great!

We had high hopes for dinner in that fabulous dining room, but my food was overcooked and arrived on a cold plate. Why would a chef do that? The people were very nice, though. Our room was plain but nice, and the bathroom was new and lovely. A few essentials were missing, which was annoying for a one-night stay.

The courses took ages, and even after they arrived there was a long wait between the first and last of us being served. Then dessert showed up before the main course. The service was a shambles from the start: after we ordered five beers and a G&T, we were told there was no beer or gin. We'd just cycled fifty miles that day, so you can imagine how welcome that news was. The wine we'd picked from the menu wasn't available either, so we settled for cider, only to hear they had no more chilled bottles. The food was okay, nothing special. It's a shame, since the restaurant is in an attractive building with a courtyard, and the interior is just as pleasant. It could have been so much better.
