Hôtel Le Vauban

A good central base for cyclists, with a separate lock-up garage for bikes. There are no anchor points inside the garage, though. Reception staff were friendly, and the beds were adequately comfortable. There’s no air conditioning. The rooms are compact, and the corridors are even tighter. Breakfast is very basic and served in a windowless room that badly needs soundproofing. It gets noisy in there.

The walls are really thin. I could hear my neighbour talking late into the night, and his TV came through clearly too. Luckily, I had earplugs with me. Still, the staff were all lovely and welcoming, which I appreciated. The receptionist was especially kind when I arrived. After I got lost and took the wrong street, she helped me find the bike storage garage. Breakfast was simple, tasty, and filling. My room was comfortable, and I loved the brown bathroom suite.

It was cheap, but I wouldn’t book again. The room was generally clean, though the bathroom and toilet were old and a bit shabby. They provided cheap soap, which I didn’t use. The bed was comfortable, but the room was really cold when I arrived. I wish they’d turned on the heat beforehand. It took three to four hours to warm up. The staff were nice, but reception wasn’t always staffed and you had to call. The reality was a bit disappointing compared with the pictures. Maybe it comes down to what you expect.

The staff were lovely and friendly, but the room was cramped, especially the bathroom, and the decor left a lot to be desired. Mosquitoes plagued us overnight. We got up three or four times trying to get rid of them, and there were marks on the walls showing others had the same problem.
