Hôtel La Marine

The mussels were delicious and the fish was good, though expensive. The steaks were a different story: we asked for medium, but they came rare at best, and the meat was so sinewy I couldn't cut it. After we told the waiter, he brought a replacement that was less sinewy but even rarer. Why ask how we want our steaks cooked if they can't make them that way? We waited over an hour, and people who arrived after us were served first. The waiter tried to translate the menu, which was only written in chalk on a blackboard, and didn't speak much English. The room had some holes and scratches in the walls, but the accommodation was still good for the money. The place has potential, though the waiter seemed inexperienced. In short, the long wait, expensive and badly cooked steaks, good mussels and fish, and decent value room made for a mixed stay.

The rooms were basic but fine, and the French-style cold buffet breakfast was plentiful. All eight of us enjoyed it. The fire exits were poorly marked, if marked at all, and a firefighter in our group said he'd close the hotel if it were in the UK. A really grumpy, bad-tempered woman seriously let down the rest of the team. She seemed unaware that some of us spoke French.

The hotel was clean and in a great location, but it's very, very old and needs a full renovation. Noise from other rooms carries badly, the toilet door was broken, and there were lots of other issues throughout. Fine for one or two nights at most.

The room and toilet were extremely dirty, with mold everywhere and a bad smell. Everything felt completely rundown. Breakfast was disappointing too, and the eggs were almost inedible.
