Domaine Le Poteau

We’ll definitely come back. It’s a lovely little site, and everything is kept spotlessly clean. You can walk into the village, where there’s a fantastic restaurant serving a set lunch on weekdays. Matt and Kim are incredibly friendly and full of local knowledge. What a great find!

The dark skies here were the best we saw on our whole four-week trip, and the site is wonderfully quiet and rustic. The pitches are huge, the facilities immaculate, and the chickens are a delight. Matt and Kim are lovely, hardworking hosts with plenty of camping experience. Nothing was too much trouble, so we added more nights because we just didn’t want to leave. There’s great cycling nearby, along with historic towns that have day and evening markets. We’ll be back on our way south, though I know it won’t be just for one night. Wishing them all the best, and thank you for such warm hospitality.

We meant to stay for two nights and ended up adding another because it was so calm and quiet. Matt and Kim had thought of everything and couldn’t have been more helpful. They even had a water pistol for shooing the chickens away, though we rather liked having them around. There are loads of thoughtful extras: bread for breakfast orders, eggs from the roaming chickens, freezer packs they’ll freeze for you, and local tourist information. The wine tasting was great, with some quality wines available to buy. Laundry facilities and toilets were excellent, and there’s even a hairdryer.

We were heading to The Pyrénées and planned just a stop at Domaine Le Poteau, but stayed almost a week instead. Kim and Matt were so accommodating, even showing us around the campsite and welcoming us with drinks. It’s a peaceful, quaint place, close enough to explore local towns but tucked away enough to get away from it all. We can’t wait to return.
