Hôtel du Canal

There are better places nearby for the same price or less, and the service here was poor. The hotel looked almost abandoned when I arrived, with dead weeds and worn signs and building exterior. Maybe it gets bookings because it’s called 'du Canal' and sits by the Canal. My booking showed a 1pm check-in, but the older man at reception immediately said I was early and my room wasn’t ready, insisting check-in was at 2pm. He disappeared, then returned with a boiled egg and a beer, sat behind the desk and ate while watching TV. About ten minutes later he silently handed me a key and vaguely pointed toward the stairs. He didn’t mention a lift, so I hauled my bags up two floors. No breakfast options were offered. The room was plain, the shower leaked badly and left the floor soaked. The lights were oddly set up: the ceiling fan only worked if I had the lights on. There’s no air conditioning, so look elsewhere if you need that. My bike went in a dark, damp key-card garage by the road, away from the hotel.

For an inexpensive, no-frills stay while visiting the area or catching an early flight from Toulouse, this place does the job. The rooms could use a bit more decoration, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout.

We stayed one night before flying from Toulouse and got one of the outside rooms overlooking the canal. It was clean, had a good shower and a fridge, though the canal-side window was disappointingly small. Getting into town is a very short walk, and finding the hotel by car was easy.

Nothing fancy, but adequate. It’s close to restaurants, and the bike storage is good if you’re cycling.
