Hotel Restaurant Du Centre Et Du Lauragais

The restaurant’s menu was good, and we enjoyed the food, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. At dinner we were hurried to sit down, waited a long time to be served, and then felt pressured because the kitchen was about to close. The booking price was another problem: at check-in they asked for much more per night than the amount we’d agreed to, and having to sort that out was unpleasant. It’s also not very bike-friendly. The bicycle storage is down stairs in a hard-to-reach, damp, smelly part of the hotel’s storage area.

The cassoulet was the main reason for lunch at Le Centre Restaurant et Hôtel in Castelnaudary, and it lived up to its reputation. The beans were savory, the meats tender, and the sauce rich. It was a hearty, delicious regional dish, clearly made with care. The dining room felt warm and inviting, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and happy to offer recommendations. There were plenty of tempting options on the menu, but the cassoulet was the highlight. A lovely place for a relaxed lunch.

We won’t be staying here again. We’re 84 and 74, and the staff wouldn’t let us sit at a table for a few minutes while we waited for the restaurant to open. We went across the road for cassoulet instead, where we were treated with respect. The hotel itself seemed average for a three-star place, and the staff came across as rude, unprofessional, and impolite.

The staff were lovely and smiled through our very limited French. We had a great three-course meal with good wine, and the whole experience was amazing. Don’t miss the tarte au citron or the Gorgazaud chardonnay.
