I enjoyed the balcony and the quiet, and the location in Ceret was good. I stayed six nights, though my room was dated and basic, especially the bathroom. Several lights caused trouble: the one outside my room was out, leaving the corridor dark at night, the bathroom light kept flickering off and was hard to switch on, and the entrance light stopped working during my stay. I was told no one could fix them over Christmas and was offered another room. I chose to stay put because packing and moving seemed more inconvenient. The female receptionist was friendly and helpful, but the male receptionist came across as grumpy and unfriendly. He spoke rudely to me a couple of times, and when I spoke to him, it seemed he was feeling unwell. I’m not sure why he was working and preparing breakfast when he was clearly ill. I’d stayed here a few years ago and had a good experience, but this time I felt like a nuisance. It’s put me off staying again.

The Hôtel des Arcades is right in the centre of lovely Céret, and the hotel itself has a great layout and wonderful style. I enjoyed my room, and the breakfast was very good. The couple running the place are outgoing and extremely nice, with excellent service. If I’m back in Céret, I’ll book at the Hôtel des Arcades again.
