La Tour de Contrôle - hôtel autonome

Each floor has a shared kitchen and dining room where you can cook, eat, spend time together and clean up after yourself. Breakfast is a self-serve buffet in the same room, and you tidy up afterwards. It worked really well. The hotel is a lovely little find near Chambéry, somewhere between a hotel and a hostel. On our visit, check-in was self service, super easy and quick, with no hassle at all. My room was on the small side, which I think is because I’d asked for a view of the airfield. Everything was new and clean, and decorated with care and attention to detail. I’d definitely come back, hopefully when the restaurant is open, because the menu looked delicious.

A lovely time, and I’d happily come back. The welcome was warm and attentive, the setting elegant and relaxing, and the food delicious. Inside, there are beautiful photos and little stories about aviation, planes, pilots and the history of the old control tower. They give the place a special character and a unique atmosphere. You can tell the details have been thought through.

This was our fourth dinner here, and the food keeps getting worse. The first time, we sat near the kitchen and everything looked tempting. We’ve ordered the cheese and charcuterie board twice. The first time it was delicious, with green salad, pine nuts and carrots, the sort of thing that makes you want dessert. Last night was a disaster: plain salad leaves with no dressing or sides, not worth €5. The presentation was so poor it looked below vocational high school level. The cheese was dry and hard, like Emmental from a bag that had been cut at least two days earlier, and the blue cheese was just as dry. A completely disappointing meal. The service, though, was very professional. The waitress said she’d pass our feedback on to the chef, but the chef never replied to us. I’d been telling people how good this place was, and now I’ll be telling them the opposite. Sincerely,

We had a lovely family lunch here. The decor is tasteful and fits the theme, and the staff were very pleasant. My truffle pizza and Toblerone mousse were just as good as I’d hoped, and my partner enjoyed their meal and dessert too. A little extra touch was the génépi liqueur in the tower.
