L'Aiguille du Midi

The whole thing was amazingly well organized, from the friendly, helpful employees to the ride up to the top. A must-do in Chamonix.

Chamonix is a lovely village with lots of shops and restaurants, and Aiguille du Midi is my favorite mountain. It is expensive, but worth it. I’d get there early, around 7:45, while the parking lot about a 10-minute walk away is still available and the ticket crowds are manageable. After you get off the cable car, head fairly quickly to the lift for the glass skybox. The queues for the lift and the glass box are still short then.

Take the first lift if you can, so you catch sunrise. The views are stunning, it’s magical up there, and there are fewer people around. I’d allow at least five hours to see what the area has to offer. If you have extra time and feel like splurging, the Panoramic Mont-Blanc ride to Italy is a must-do. It takes 40 minutes and gives you incredible views across the whole mountain range. This was probably the most incredible experience of my life, absolutely worth every penny, whether you love mountains or just want breathtaking scenery.

FYI, on 15 Aug 2025 it was €81 per person. We arrived at 10:10 am and bought tickets for the 12:20 departure. Public parking was full before 10:20. The whole visit took five hours, and you have to stay for 100 minutes, with no early return allowed. Don’t miss this wonderful scenery.
