Comfortable beds that don’t creak are a real bonus when four people share a room. The staff are lovely and super friendly, and the location is handy for town. The well-stocked bar is a good place to meet people, mostly hikers and other outdoorsy types.

Quaint and comfy place, with British management and pub dispensers. The village is an easy ten-minute walk away. You can pay different rates for sharing with six people or getting a private room. Some interesting customers drop in, so your roommates may have stories to tell.

The owners were really nice and let us check in late, but the room itself was a letdown. The four-bed dorm is tiny, with just one power point and nowhere to leave bags. The shower was clogged with a ball of hair and didn’t look as if it had been cleaned recently. There was also nowhere to keep toiletries dry or get changed. Fine for one night, but I wouldn’t hurry back.

Worst hostel I’ve stayed in. There wasn’t even a toaster at breakfast, just plain bread. The coffee was lukewarm on the first morning, and another day the orange juice had gone off. After skiing, there was nowhere to relax except the bar, which closed really early if it wasn’t busy. Four people in the dorm had to share one plug. I asked the owner for a multi-socket and they weren’t interested.
