Mercure Lyon Est Chaponnay

We stopped here twice on the way down to the coast, and both times the rooms were uncomfortably warm. The air conditioning only moved the air around without cooling it. We also struggled to get a table at the in-house restaurant even though it was half empty, and the restaurant staff had a terrible attitude. The waitress was the one bright spot: she fitted us in and gave good service. Breakfast is squeezed into an incredibly short window for such a small place, so there may not be room during the two or three hours available. It was a poor experience, and this certainly isn't a 4-star hotel.

The value for money is amazing, and the free parking is very close to the main entrance. The staff have always been friendly and helpful, and we've been warmly welcomed at both reception and the restaurant. Breakfast has a nice mix of sweet and savoury choices. When we needed an early start, I asked if I could take some croissants for my kids, and the staff were lovely about it. The restaurant was great too: we tried half-board, and the meals were excellent for the price, with both kids and adults happy. The rooms have a fantastic layout, comfortable beds, especially the master bed, a clever toilet, a good shower, and Nuxe products. Some rooms have a complimentary minibar, and there's a good TV with international channels. It's also in a great spot when you're passing through, since you don't have to drive into busy Lyon. This is my third stay, and after visiting several Accor and other properties, I think this hotel gets all the main things right. It keeps surprising me. Other Accor hotels could follow these standards. Merci, and keep up the good work!

It was quiet and cool even during the heat wave. The location was good, too, making it easy to continue the journey south, and check-in was easy.

The staff are always so welcoming. I love staying at this hotel whenever I'm in France.
