Mercure Lyon Charbonnieres

Breakfast had a good selection, and there's a nice orange juicer, though the buffet felt like a free for all. When it gets really busy, it's easy to see why the staff can't keep up. Dinner was served quickly, but they got part of our order wrong, which was a shame. Both rooms we stayed in had lighting faults and bathroom problems. Nothing major, and the hotel offered us alternatives, but once you've settled in, moving rooms over little things is awkward. It felt like a three-star place.

The room was clean and spacious enough for all six of us, but the air conditioning was very weak and it was hot. Parking right outside was ideal for our campervan, since we were worried about finding a space with enough height. The outside area was nice, and breakfast was okay, with a pleasant outdoor setting and a very friendly, helpful waitress. The restaurant was closed, but reception recommended a lovely rooftop place nearby. Check-in was easy, with lots of emails beforehand explaining the process, and confirming our two dogs and two children in the booking was straightforward.

We've stayed here several times. It's handy for VetAgro, the veterinary hospital, and the trip into Lyon city centre is surprisingly short. The restaurant food is very good and the service excellent. On earlier visits, we also enjoyed the hotel's friendly service, great breakfasts and well-equipped rooms. There's plenty of outdoor space for pets, who are welcome. A restaurant is within walking distance, though there isn't much else nearby.

The soundproofing was good, the location was spot on, and breakfast was exceptional. Still, I didn't feel rested because the bed was so old, uneven and creaky, and the pillows were square.
