Right in the town center, in a beautiful old building full of character. My room was comfortable and had everything I needed. Breakfast came with lots of homemade jams, and the host was impeccable. I'd happily stay again without hesitation.

Christophe gave us a warm welcome and explained everything we needed to enjoy our short stay. This charming, peaceful gîte is near Place Ducale, and the price was reasonable. The first-floor bedroom was a bit dark, but the bedding was good quality. Roadworks meant we had to plan a little when bringing our luggage down, though access was still manageable. Parking is 150m away. For 10 euros, there's a good organic breakfast with homemade jams. The host was friendly and attentive to what guests needed.

The old building has some charm and is 200m from the Ducal Square, but that alone doesn't justify what felt like a relatively high price. The furnishings seemed cheap, with makeshift repairs that didn't seem right for an €80 room. The small, unattractive low-brand TV and very cheap microwave also felt out of place beside the building's character. We booked two rooms for two people, and we came away with the same impression. The reception also seemed rather unsympathetic when we had trouble parking less than 300 meters away. Tonight in Troyes, we're in a traditional hotel for €62, with quality sheets and a bed, clean materials, and professional finishing. It has higher overheads and taxes than a private individual, which makes the price difference here harder to understand.
