Hotellerie Saint Yves

It took some searching to find the hotel by car, even with the map they provide. Ask for another one at reception when you leave, or you may not know which way to exit. The property is quite basic, but good value for the money. We liked how clean the rooms and hotel were, the central location less than a minute from the cathedral, the view from our room, and the parking ground. The breakfast was fine and had plenty of choice, but little things could be better: the salami was sliced very thick, and the bread was a bit hard. Still, it's fine for the price. The person at reception seemed uninterested and annoyed. Also, for anyone who needs it, there were no lactose-free alternatives at breakfast. Our son is lactose intolerant, so I always appreciate knowing this.

For a peaceful stay right in the center of Chartres, this is the place. The cathedral is only a few minutes' walk away.

The breakfast was better than I expected for a continental one, and the room was clean. The view from this hotel right in the middle of town is fantastic, with the cathedral only a two-minute walk away. It took some effort to find the place. I left the car at the bottom of the hill, walked up maybe a kilometer or a bit less, and picked up a map at reception. After that, following it was easy. Parking was pretty tight on the night I arrived, though it wasn't a problem later. There wasn't a TV in the room. I wouldn't have watched one myself, but it could matter if you want French TV or to practice the language.

Getting around from this central Chartres location is easy, and the hotel is upfront about how basic the rooms are. The lack of air conditioning is a problem, though. The shutters are inside, so to block the light you have to close the window, which makes it hard to sleep when it's hot. The payment was confusing too: some things were paid in advance, then a bunch of extra costs appeared at the end.
