The Originals Boutique, Hôtel Les Poèmes de Chartres

The location worked well for transport and for getting to the old city and church, and breakfast turned out to be a pleasant surprise with plenty of options. Staff were honest and helpful when there was a smell in one room, and they did what they could; it wasn’t a major issue in the end. We’d only realized after arriving that a big festival was happening just down the road. Our last-minute booking was chaotic, but the staff still made room for us and our dog, which was really kind.

The breakfast buffet was generous and had all the options, and the adjoining bar was lovely and reasonably priced. Rooms were comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location is ideal for the cathedral and nearby area, with the train station directly opposite. There’s limited paid parking. We really enjoyed our overnight stay, and it would be a great choice for a short break. There’s no lift, so ask for a lower floor if you have heavy luggage, but don’t let that put you off.

Great location, and the €9-per-person breakfast was satisfactory. We arrived late and were pleasantly welcomed at reception in the more upscale neighboring hotel, which is co-owned. The rooms were good, though they have no air conditioning or elevators, and laundry was strewn along the corridors. We weren’t offered the car park option that guests at the nicer hotel were given.

The room was very clean and the bed was good, but there was a moldy smell in the bathroom from a lack of ventilation. The parking area is a bit small, and breakfast wasn’t very tasty. Since it’s not far from the railway station, don’t expect a quiet night or morning.
