Chateau Des Fines Roches

On the evening we arrived, Aurelian at the front desk had already booked us a table at the Restaurant Fines Roches, even though it was otherwise completely booked. He guessed we'd had a long day of travel, and that kind thought stayed with us. The staff were warm and excited to celebrate our honeymoon. Our room was clean and comfortable, up in one of the turrets, with a beautiful view. The hotel, tucked into the hills of Chateauneuf du Pape, was a dreamy place to spend a few days. Don't miss the restaurant if you're staying there, the blind menu was incredible. Thanks for helping make our honeymoon unforgettable!

The restaurant was wonderful, and we especially valued the sommelier's guidance on wine. The outside is striking, like a beautiful castle, and made a strong impression on us. Inside, though, the hotel felt ordinary, without the charm its exterior led us to expect. Our room wasn't ready at the stated 3 PM check-in, and it wasn't cleaned during our stay. We had to ask for fresh towels and more toilet paper, which was inconvenient. There's no proper shower, just a bathtub with a showerhead set at an awkward angle on the wall. For those reasons, we can't give it more than three stars.

We only had one day here while passing through, so there wasn't time to enjoy everything the hotel offers. The place feels authentic and is well suited to a quiet rest. The staff were professional and caring, breakfast was very tasty, and our room had a lot of character. The sunrises were incredible, and the wine we stopped here for was absolutely superb. The setting is ideal for an outdoor lunch or dinner, with a stunning view. We ate at the restaurant but didn't stay at the hotel. The set menu had several nice options. I had the seafood pasta and lamb shoulder, while my husband chose the egg dish and fish. The pasta was cooked well, though it didn't have much seafood; the egg dish was dry, but the lamb and fish were outstanding. Cake for dessert was okay. The champagne and wine pours seemed light, so a bottle might be a better choice. Service was good, though staff wearing earpieces seemed a little distracted while taking our orders. Still, I recommend a visit.
