We first spotted the hilltop castle and town while driving toward Provence. It stayed with me, so I looked it up and planned a stop on our way north. Two nights at Chez Bagatelle were a treat. The room was lovely, the hosts were so warm, and staying inside the walled town felt like stepping into a fairytale. Annie shared great restaurant suggestions, especially L’Oree du Bois, and breakfast was perfect. We’d happily stay again when we’re nearby.

We were two couples spending a few days in Annie and Jean Michel’s beautiful house. The hosts were endlessly friendly, and each morning breakfast came with local cheeses and charcuterie. The house was peaceful, so we slept very well. The rooms were spacious and lovely, though our bed was up in a mansard and wasn’t the most convenient. The mattress could have been better, and the stairs creaked loudly, which was a nuisance for nighttime trips to the toilet. There’s a sleeping couch downstairs if you want to avoid the stairs. The bathroom was fine, but the shower cabin could use an update. Annie and Jean Michel also gave us lots of helpful ideas for meals, sightseeing, and places to buy the famous Bourgogne wine. Châteauneuf itself is a gorgeous little gem.

We had a really nice, clean room, and this B&B is friendly to cyclists. The couple running it were incredibly kind and helpful, and they speak English.

The hosts were so helpful and kind, and we liked this little medieval village with its handful of restaurants. We left a day earlier than planned to make the drive to Paris for our flight easier, which worked out well. For me, though, getting around meant going up and down a very steep hill. I’m afraid of heights, so I couldn’t enjoy the place as much as I otherwise might have.

A bit complicated. We had to arrange our arrival time, and they gave us a two-hour window while asking for my understanding. Annie’s tone generally wasn’t very nice.
