Hotel De La Cote D'Or

We arrived just as the restaurant was about to close, but the staff were amazing and served us a very good two-course meal. The room was clean and comfortable, with a modern bathroom, and breakfast was plentiful. Our host was very friendly. We stayed overnight on the way home from Italy.

The kitchen did a great job, and all the courses were tasty. We could pick from two menus with different options for each course, as well as à la carte. The desserts were homemade, and we ordered six different ones. On Sunday 2020.09.06, we were glad to get a table for seven at short notice. The restaurant was full, and we were the last table to arrive for lunch. The waitress was alone with more than ten tables, yet worked efficiently and with a smile. I’d hire her right away. The owner would need two people to replace her. We’ll definitely come back.

We couldn’t get a decent night’s sleep because the heating system made an intermittent, high-pitched whine all night. The room was clean and the bathroom was okay, but the hotel has seen better days and badly needs refurbishment and modernization. In the morning, the proprietor tried to charge us the tariff board price, considerably more than our booked rate. We showed him our printed booking confirmation, but he wouldn’t listen until we threatened to go to the Office de Tourisme. Not a good experience, and definitely not recommended.

We had a perfect night at La Côte d'Or and only wished we could have stayed longer. The little hotel was very clean and well cared for, in the charming Burgundian city of Chatillon sur Seine. Its restaurant was a nice discovery too. We recommend the hotel.
