Chateau le Barreau

A lovely place to stay, with a touch of luxury in France.

The room was a highlight: our spacious, very pleasant Meursault room had a comfy bed and a lovely balcony view over the pool. Breakfast was generous and served on the terrace, though on our last morning we had to eat indoors because fertilizer was being spread. We stayed two nights and enjoyed them, but the hosts felt quite cold. They didn’t seem very concerned about our comfort, and on arrival just handed us a list of restaurants without offering useful suggestions. That was unlike the welcome we’d had at other guesthouses.

We had a pleasant stay, and Nutella the dog was adorable. The host was very welcoming, though his wife could have been more flexible and business-minded. The rooms and setting are beautiful, but there aren’t many shops nearby, so getting around without a car is difficult.

The owners were welcoming and ready to help if we needed anything. We had no complaints during our six nights in the gîte. The region is magnificent, and bringing bikes is a good idea for the ride along the canals.
