Logis Le Relais Chenonceaux

We were disappointed by the main course on the fixed menu. The starter was lovely, but the beef was tough, and seemed like it should have been slow cooked instead of grilled. A good chef shouldn't choose such a poor cut for this menu. It's a shame after we'd enjoyed French food around the country for weeks to finish our trip at this restaurant.

The beds were comfortable and breakfast was okay, but the decor and fittings felt tired. We got a cold welcome, with no help about parking or the Wi-Fi code. Restaurant service was awful and VERY slow. There's a chalkboard warning that things can be slow, but it's hard to see. The food was okay, though the final bill had incorrect meal prices. Two stars, you get what you pay for.

The village setting is idyllic, right in the centre of a pretty place. The meal was a letdown: chewy beef steak and ice cream served poorly in a drinking glass. Service was mediocre too, and the water we asked for never came. I wouldn't recommend it.

After a long ride on Loire a Velo, we were hoping for a refreshing shower, but the shower hose was leaking so badly that we couldn't use it. We told reception, but they didn't offer to fix it or move us, and didn't apologize. The room was cramped, small and very hot, with no AC, though at least there was a window opening onto the restaurant patio below. The breakfast was a very minimal continental one. Bike storage was out in the yard, largely uncovered and not totally secure. That's the first time we've found bike storage so exposed at a place accredited under the “Accueil Velo” national accreditation scheme. The first thing we noticed on entering the hotel was how threadbare the furniture and carpets were.
