Brit Hotel Cherbourg Octeville

The rooms are a good size and clean, and the hotel looks out over the city. It’s quite a way from the town center, though. Getting into the shower was difficult for someone a little overweight. There’s also no room service, lift, or special access for wheelchair users.

We only stayed one night. The room was clean and good, but the bathroom was tiny, and the shower curtain let water flood the whole bathroom. The hotel is up on a mountain, away from the city center. We arrived late, with no buses running, so we had to climb for 30 minutes. The breakfast buffet had only a couple of choices, like croissants and pain au Chocolat.

We usually rate Brit Hotels highly, but not this one. Service was unhelpful, and we were told they were full and couldn’t move us to a quiet room at the back, even though we were the first to check in when reception finally opened at 5.30pm. There was no air conditioning, so we slept with the windows open onto a busy road. The corridors stayed dark, with no automatic lights, and we hated the unpleasant plastic shower curtains. Reception is closed most of the day until 5.30, then shuts again at 9pm. When we returned at 9pm, there were only 10 cars in the car park, so much for being too full to change our room.

The room was cleaned every day, there’s a large car park, and the hotel is near the city center. The accommodation price was good too. The main downside is that there’s no fridge or kitchenette in the room for anyone who doesn’t want to eat at the hotel restaurant. There’s only a microwave.
