Hotel AKENA La Ferté Bernard

The thing I liked most about La Ferté-Bernard was the town itself, it’s small and really enchanting. The view from room 110 was lovely too, with green trees and bushes nearby and pretty meadows. But I wouldn’t stay at Hotel Akena again. The window wouldn’t shut properly because the seals were worn out, so bugs could get in. On day two I found two German cockroaches on the bed, and on day four one came in through the window and nearly landed on my head. The room had old furniture, dust and cobwebs in every corner, and mold across almost every wall. The outside walls were especially affected. The shower was grimy and clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly for a long time. Its old sliding doors seemed to collect mold and scale, and I felt dirtier getting out than when I went in. Breakfast was the same every morning: hard-boiled eggs, a small amount of ham that was gone by 8 o'clock, yogurt, dairy spreads, jams, bread, croissants and one other pastry. There was coffee and juice, but that was it. I’m not much of a breakfast person, and even I found it poor. The staff didn’t speak English, which wasn’t a big deal, but it’s worth mentioning. The front desk also wasn’t open after 22h. At first the hotel seemed like another three-star place, but the stay turned into a bit of a nightmare. I don’t know what other hotels are nearby, but I’d avoid this one in future.
