Le Moulin de Bardeas

The main reason we booked was for a quiet gite, but that’s not what we got. On Saturday evening we arrived to find the hosts away and an extremely loud rave in the neighboring field. They knew about this large organized event, with a professional sound system and camping on site, but hadn’t warned us. It went on until 07:45 Sunday morning, then started again at 2pm and continued past 1am, when we went to bed. It was unbelievably loud. I have an audio recording of how awful and loud it was, but the file is too large to share. Emailing the hosts didn’t resolve things. They promised to refund the cost of two nights, then refused to do so. The hosts didn’t check whether we had any problems, even though they live upstairs, which hadn’t been made clear. They returned on Wednesday, by which point the pool was murky and green. We were told the pump had failed, so there’d been no filtration. Both of our teenagers developed ear infections, which we believe resulted from this, and needed antibiotics; their treatment is ongoing. There’s a photo of the pool looking like a swamp. The pool was only a good point when it was clean, along with the sunshine. The grounds are rough and unkempt, the loungers and furniture are cheap, worn out and brittle from sun exposure, and the roughly paved poolside needs attention. The pool also needs a proper clean. Two loungers and a patio chair shattered when they broke, causing minor injuries. The equipment generally needs replacing. The fridge doesn’t stay cold enough, and we lost about £30 worth of meat during the trip because it spoiled after 24 hours. The property has shared access with the hosts. Our dogs barked at the host, even though we’d been told that could be avoided by giving them a little attention. David shouted “Shut Up” loudly and aggressively. That wasn’t nice. If you don’t like dogs, don’t accept them. After a week, the smell and flies from the outhouse, where bin bags had piled up, made it impossible to sit outside. We had to email to get it dealt with. We left after doing a basic clean and sweep. The hosts knew when we were leaving but didn’t contact us. We asked about the refund and heard nothing. After tracking them down through Whats App, they withheld it for cleaning because we hadn’t left the €150 “security deposit” the owners instructed us to pay. So we lost a refund of over £300 instead of a small €150 deposit. We’d spent thousands on this holiday, so don’t make the same mistake. I wonder why there are so few comments in the visitors’ book or reviews?
